In the US state of Indiana, a law could allow pharmacists to refuse to give women abortion pills on ethical or religious grounds.
The proposal was approved by a state Senate Committee and could extend the current law prohibiting doctors and hospital employees from being required to participate in abortions: protection of freedom of conscience could also be extended to nurses and medical assistants.
Last year, one-third of Indiana’s abortions were drug-induced.
The bill now requires Senate approval.
