The draft bill of the Mariano Rajoy Government “to protect the life of the unborn child and the rights of the pregnant woman” could be modified before being presented to Congress in July, according to El Pais.
The Spanish daily newspaper suggests that “the Government will include fœtal deformities in legal grounds allowing abortion”, which would constitute a basic amendment to the draft bill. The Government will certainly not comment “in black and white in the legislation that fœtal anomalies are a valid reason for an abortion” but considering that fœtal deformities pose psychological risk factors for mothers, abortions could, in fact, be carried out for this reason.
