Wales introduces home abortions

Publié le 23 Jul, 2018

Home abortions have been introduced in Wales. In the case of a medical abortion, women have to take two tablets within 72 hours of each other, firstly Mifepristone, which blocks progesterone, followed by Misoprostol, which triggers contractions. Before, women living in Wales had to take both tablets in hospital. From now on, they will be given the second tablet during their initial visit and can take it at home.

There were 8,578 terminations of pregnancy in Wales in 2017, and 79.2% of these were medical procedures. Scotland adopted a similar measure last autumn (see Scots authorised to abort at home).
