US, $1.7 million awarded to an anti-abortion organization

Publié le 15 Avr, 2019

In the U.S., the Trump Administration has awarded a grant of $5.1 million for the next three years, including $1.7 million for this year, to the non-profit organization the Obria Group. The funds come from Title X of the family planning fund, which excludes abortion funding (cf. U.S., the family planning program will not fund abortions), which also excludes websites that refer pregnant clients to abortion services.

Obria’s services include, among other things, pregnancy counselling and testing, prenatal care until delivery, “sexual risk avoidance education”, adoption referrals, post-abortion support, HIV/AIDS screening, and ultrasound and cancer screening.

At the same time, the Health and Human Services Department also announced that it would reduce the subsidies allocated to certain organizations affiliated with Planned Parenthood.
