On Tuesday, the Louisiana Senate voted on legislation to extend the current abortion reflection period from 24 to 72 hours. Those in favour see this as giving women more time to make a decision whilst those against view it as a further obstacle for women who wish to have an abortion.
The draft bill, already approved by the Assembly, must now be revisited for the final vote, which has to be positive. It will then pass before Governor John Bel Edwards who will undoubtedly uphold the bill. Louisiana would then become the sixth US State to adopt a 72-hour reflection period for abortion.
