The turn of Cambodia to consider banning surrogacy for foreigners

Publié le 4 Nov, 2016

Cambodia is considering banning “commercial surrogacy”, hot on the heels of Thailand, Nepal and India. Last week, the Justice Minister met with MPs, members of non-governmental organisations and legal experts to implement this project. She fears that vulnerable Cambodian women are being exploited by unscrupulous organisations offering the women’s services to foreigners for between $20,000 and $50,000. About forty or so agencies operate in this country and have witnessed an increase in business following the restrictions imposed by Nepal and Thailand. A report should soon be presented to the government “outlining the advantages and disadvantages of surrogacy”.
