The Netherlands – first doctor sued for euthanasia of dementia patient

Publié le 27 Nov, 2018

For the first time since euthanasia was legalised in 2002, the public prosecutor has initiated “legal proceedings against a retirement home doctor for performing euthanasia on a 74-year-old female patient with dementia in 2016”. The woman was “incapable of expressing her wishes”.

The female doctor, whose identity has not been disclosed, will be tried before the court in The Hague.

Of the 12 questionable cases reported in 2017, two are still under investigation.
