The experiment with birth houses adopted by the Senate

Publié le : 14 June 2013

On Thursday 13 June, the Senate adopted the bill authorising birth houses that had been submitted in February by the centrist senator Muguette Dini.

According to this bill, birth houses may be authorised in an experimental capacity and for five years. In concrete terms, each of these birth houses "will have to sign an agreement with a maternity unit which will organise the transfer to a medical team in the case of complications during the pregnancy or when giving birth."
The mission of the midwives working in these structures is "to ensure the overall and personalized support for the pregnant woman and the couple for pregnancies without complications, in conditions less medically equipped than in a classic obstetric unit. The monitoring is done from the first prenatal visit up to the postpartum care.
