The biggest international human organ trafficking network stopped in Egypt

Publié le 19 Dec, 2016

The Egyptian authorities have stated that they have shut down “the biggest international human organ trafficking network”. The network comprised “Egyptians and nationals of other Arab countries who were exploiting the citizens’ financial situation to purchase their organs and sell them for considerable sums of money”.

According to a press release from the Administrative Control Authority, “at least 25 people including health workers, intermediaries and University Professors” have been arrested for organ trafficking in Egypt.

The Agency stated that “millions of dollars and gold bars” had been seized together with “computers and documents from 10 medical centres”.

Trading in human organs was banned six years ago in Egypt but hundreds of poor Egyptians still sell their organs each year.
