The American Family Planning Association announces a “change of policy”

Publié le 13 Oct, 2015

On Tuesday, the American Family Planning Association announced that it “was changing its policy concerning the donation of foetuses to the scientific community”.  It “will no longer accept financial compensation from middle-men who collect the tissues for scientists”.

This decision follows on from the hotly contested debate arising after the circulation of videos by an association of American journalists, the Center for Medical Progress (CMP), using hidden cameras, revealing the scandalous activity of the Family Planning Association: the sale of organs collected from aborted children and used “in numerous areas of research such as Down Syndrome and infectious diseases”.

The Republicans attacked the organisation before Congress and are determined to suspend public subsidies(cf. Gènéthique du 21 septembre 2015). They “voted last week to create a Parliamentary Commission to set up a special enquiry”. The President of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards “aims to ensure that the only discussion surrounding money will be travelling expenses”. With this new policy she hopes “to fend off any excuse for opponents of the organisation”.
