Texas: suspension of a law restricting abortion

Publié le 29 Jun, 2015

This Monday, the United States Supreme Court Judges decided to temporarily block a Texan law “restricting abortion” by five votes to four.  This law, which was validated in 2013 by the Court of Appeal for the Fifth Circuit, which covers Texas, “imposed a number of constraints on clinics” and consequently called for the closure of “virtually all clinics practising abortion”.

Abortion was decriminalised in 1973 in the United States and since then, several States “have adopted laws restricting rights to abortion”.

The Supreme Court stated that its decision was “temporary”, “and that it would take time to decide on whether or not to look into the question of abortion next autumn”, a few months before the Presidential Election.
