Texas: Journalists censured following the circulation of American Family Planning videos

David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt from the Center for Medical Progress, were indicted on Monday in a jury trial [1] in Texas “for reporting on the alleged sale of foetal tissues by the Family Planning Association”.The jury accused both journalists “of having falsified a government dossier”and also “concluded that the Family Planning Association had not broken any law”.

This decision followed the furore surrounding the circulation last summer of videos produced using hidden cameras by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP), an association of American journalists.

Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, stated that “the jury’s decision would not impact upon the State investigation into this case”. “The State of Texas will continue to protect life and I will continue to support the legislation that prohibits the sale or transfer of foetal tissue,”he reported.

Furthermore, on 2 March 2016, the United States Supreme Court will examine “the highly sensitive issue of legalising restrictions imposed by the State of Texas on abortion clinics “.
