Surrogacy now available to homosexuals in the Netherlands

Publié le 30 Nov, 2018

Although surrogacy was already available to heterosexual couples in the Netherlands, two clinics are planning to introduce surrogacy contracts for homosexuals from 2019 onwards. In the one clinic, the procedure involves an egg donation by the surrogate mother whilst in the other clinic, the surrogate mother and egg donor may be two different persons. The latter could be a sister or female family member “for greater genetic consistency”. Both clinics have benefited from the change in embryo law which was voted in last year, relaxing the ban on surrogacy. Two other clinics also intend to offer this service according to the television channel De Monitor.

The director of one of these establishments believes that as doctors have the necessary technical capabilities, there is no reason why those concerned should have to travel abroad.
