Spain: The government upholds its draft law on abortion

 In an interview on Cadena Ser radio, the leader of the Spanish Government, Mariano Rajoy, reiterated that, although abortion is “a difficult subject“, the draft law limiting access to abortion will be upheld: “We put forward a draft law and are ready to talk about it and debate the matter with those who wish to do so“, he explained. He went on to add that reform of the abortion legislation “is on the cards and we are ready to listen to everyone and to take reasonable measures. […] We are not going to back down“. 

The legislation was approved by the Spanish Council of Ministers on 20 December 2013 (Gènéthique press review on December 23rd, 2014) but has not yet been debated in Parliament.
