81 year-old Hubert Ougier, who was married to Nicole for fifty-four years, suffocated her with a duffle bag on the morning of 28 October 2015 before attempting to commit suicide. His wife, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and osteoporosis, would not accept outside help. Her husband faced her condition alone, on a daily basis.

On Friday, 3 November, the criminal court of Isère sentenced him to five years in prison with a suspended sentence.
