In Russia, the region of Yaroslavl banned abortions on 28 December, Feast of the Holy Innocents. Local religious leaders asked for the biblical account of the massacre of the Innocents to be commemorated. This “abortion-free day” was supported by the region’s Department of Health.
“The 28th of December is dedicated to the memory of the children of Bethlehem slaughtered by King Herod who wanted to kill the Christ Child”. The Diocesan website stated, “Abortions are banned on this day in all State medical institutions in the region of Yaroslavl”. Private clinics were invited to follow the same approach.
