Quebec: Surrogacy under debate

Publié le : 25 April 2014

In Quebec, the medically assisted procreation programme is available to infertile couples, single women and lesbian couples (Gènéthique press review on June 17th, 2013)

However, a recent decision by the Provincial Government authorises, for the first time, a homosexual couple to access surrogacy for in-vitro fertilisation and offers State indemnity for the surrogate mother.

Interviewed following this decision, Gaétan Barette, the new Health Minister, approved the “refunding of fertility treatments when medically required” whilst requesting the inclusion of indemnity guidelines for surrogate mothers.
