Quebec: mobilisation against euthanasia

Publié le : 5 April 2013

As it did on 9 March in Quebec, (Gènéthique press review from 11th to 15th of March 2013) "the Regroupement des Québecois contre l’euthanasie (RQCE, Quebec People’s Anti-Euthanasia Group) invites the population to a spring mobilisation march” on the theme: "Euthanasia here, no thank you!" The objective is "to catch the attention of the government of Quebec as it prepares to submit a bill on medical assistance for dying."
On Thursday 4 April, Dr Claude Morin, a representative of the RQCE and an emergency doctor, stated: "from the very first moment that the government hearings began, we saw the potential social and political danger of making euthanasia possible." He added: "What we are not told is that 69% of the people who submitted their views to the parliamentary committee were against medical assistance for dying. The vast majority of doctors in palliative care are likewise opposed to it.
