Pope Francis, faithful defender of human life

On Tuesday 13 March 2013, Cardinal Jorge Maria Bergoglio, Archbishop of Buenos Aires, was elected Pope, taking the name of Francis. Like Pope Benedict XVI and Pope John Paul II, Pope Francis "is an ardent defender of life." At different times he has invited his flock to "defend human life from its conception to its natural end." In 2012, Cardinal Jorge Maria Bergoglio declared that "abortion is never a solution […]". And the Osservatore Romano points out that, for the cardinal, "promoting […] the culture of life also means upholding the existence of these children conceived, in all the phases of their childhood […]. We must ensure that ‘children grow healthily, be properly nourished, and receive a good education based on solid moral principles‘." Moreover, "each child mist ‘be accompanied for all of life’ even in ‘pain, in illness, in clean hospitals,’ where the personnel scrupulously assist the small patients with tenderness.
Lastly, this "battle" is to be "supported against the numerous attacks on human life, against the spread of the culture of death" but also "for old people who are the ‘wisdom of life’, and when human life is close to its end.
