The new Polish Government (elected on 25 October 2015) has “decided to terminate State funding of the in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) programme with effect from mid-2016”. Health Minister Mikolaj Radziwill announced on Tuesday that, “The in-vitro programme will be continued until the middle of next year but will not be continued thereafter”. IVF procedures will not be banned but will be “paid for by the interested parties”.
Under the previous Government, a law was passed in July authorising access to and reimbursement of three attempts at IVF for married and unmarried couples. An investment of €72 million was allocated “to finance continuation of the programme from 1 July 2016 to 31 December 2019”.
According to information documented by the Ministry of Health, 17,023 couples embarked on IVF treatment.
