Philippines: MPs pass a law favouring contraception

Publié le : 28 December 2012

On Monday, "a majority of MPs in the Philippines parliament voted through a law authorising free contraception and sexual education." This law, which only requires the signature of President Benigno Aquino to come into force, "authorises the provision of free contraceptives (condoms and pills) in government-run health centres throughout the country, the setting up of sexual education lessons in the schools and training in limiting births for the health personnel of public establishments." According to the government and the President, "this law will slow down the rise in the population of this country of South-East Asia and reduce maternal poverty and mortality."
