Organ donation is not part of Chinese culture

A deceased person’s body should remain intact” according to “Chinese traditions and culture”. This state of mind makes organ donation virtually impossible in China. For the same reasons, medical students “find it very difficult to find corpses for their anatomy lectures”.

While organ donation campaigns remain sporadic in this country, during the traditional Qingming festival – China’s “All Saints’ Day” – medical students in white coats place chrysanthemums in front of the memorial to the deceased who have donated their bodies to science – a ritual that aims to draw attention and raise awareness of this issue.
