The Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC) has announced its intention to pursue the principle of decentralised government in Northern Ireland. This nation, which is part of the United Kingdom, is accused of failing to apply the 1967 Abortion Act.
Abortion is currently authorised when the pregnancy poses a physical or mental danger to the mother. The NIHRC is calling for tolerance to be extended to cases of foetal deformity, rape and incest.
Most parties represented in Northern Ireland’s National Assembly have consistently shown that they do not wish to reform abortion legislation.
