No abortion ban in Oklahoma

Publié le 19 May, 2016

In the United States, a draft bill “making abortion illegal” presented by Republican senator, Nathan Dahm, was adopted by the Oklahoma Senate on Thursday by 33 votes to 12. It must now be approved by State Governor, Mary Fallin.

The draft bill stipulates that, “any doctor performing an abortion will be banned from practising in the state except in pregnancies where the mother’s life is in jeopardy”. Doctors who practise abortions will be sentenced to three years in prison.

The Centre for Reproduction Rights opposes this law believing it to be “the first of its kind and a blatant violation of the American Constitution”.

Governor Mary Fallin “has refused to comment on this until she has studied it with her team”.
