New York: Abortion rates are declining

Publié le : 21 February 2014

In 2011, with an abortion rate nearly twice that of the national average, New York was nicknamed the abortion capital. For the first time since 1970 – the year when abortion legislation was passed, this percentage has fallen below the 40% level (39.55%) of pregnant women.

Last week, the New York Health Minister announced that 42.2 pregnant women (between 15 and 49 years of age) out of 1,000 had an abortion in 2011 compared to 33.4 per 1000 in 2012.
The abortion rate has fallen by 19% and 22% since 2003 and 2000, respectively.
