IUD pregnancies: risks for mother and child

Publié le 23 Jan, 2018

Scientists at Ben Gourion University of Neguev and Soroka have studied cases of IUD pregnancies. IUD is the most widespread form of contraception in the world. According to the scientists, the women concerned are at higher risk of premature births, low birth weight, bacterial infections or losing their child. They studied data from 1991 to 2014, i.e. 221,800 deliveries. During this period, 203 women who gave birth had an IUD removed at the beginning of pregnancy, and 149 women retained their IUD throughout pregnancy.
