On Tuesday 30 April, the Irish government presented its bill "aimed at authorising abortion in cases where the mother’s life is endangered by her pregnancy." This bill, supported by Sinn Fein (a left-wing party) and by the independents, has every chance of being voted through by the two chambers of the Parliament. Just over a third of the opposition MPs say they will vote against it.
The question of the legalisation of abortion continues to arouse lively controversy in the country.
