On 22 and 23 September 2014, an informal council meeting of European Health Ministers was held in Milan. Several points were discussed, especially the question of palliative care, including paediatric palliative care, and pain treatment. During discussions, the ministers suggested “adopting a co-ordinated approach at European level in the form of a European network to promote the sharing of good practices in this area“.
They also stressed “the importance of co-operating with research centres to draw up specific programmes in the areas of chronic pain and palliative care” and the importance of closely monitoring changes in palliative care based on reliable data gathered by Member States“.
