Great Britain: Illegal Internet sales of ovary-stimulating treatments

Publié le 14 Sep, 2014

Medicines used in in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) cycles are being sold illegally on e-bay, for a third of the normal price. In Great Britain, many women who cannot conceive and who cannot afford the cost of this ovary-stimulating medication are choosing to obtain the treatment at a cheaper price on line.

Problem: these medicines warrant medical follow-up. In fact, they can cause blood clots and CVAs.  Women could also develop ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome. These women are therefore exposing themselves to numerous risks.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has contacted e-bay in order to have the said medication removed from sale.
