Last week, the Irish President enacted the law on the legalisation of abortion in Ireland following the referendum (see: Ireland: legalisation of abortion enacted).
Abortion units should become operational in January 2019. Meanwhile, Minister Simon Harris intends to allow women with fatal foetal abnormalities to travel to the United Kingdom for an abortion. This should be operational from November onwards. Financial measures could be put in place to cut costs, especially travel-related expenses.
The coming weeks will be crucial regarding conditions of gaining access to abortion in Ireland.
