Euthanasia: the Vatican is offering the Belgian Brothers of Charity Organisation “one last chance”

Publié le 10 Oct, 2017

Brother René Stockman, Superior General of the Brothers of Charity met with the Vatican’s competent authorities “about the current decision concerning the practice of euthanasia in the establishments of the Brothers of Charity in Belgium”.

The Belgian Brothers of Charity Organisation had chosen to accompany towards euthanasia certain psychiatric patients who asked for it, and had been asked to review its position. But during its meeting, last 11th September, the Belgian Organisation ignored this request (Decision in favour of maintaining the practice of euthanasia: reaction of the Brother Superior of the Brothers of Charity).

The Vatican authorities will be inviting the Brothers of Charity Organisation to “explain its approach” before a final decision is taken. By doing so it shows its will to offer the Belgian Organisation one “last chance” to “conform with the doctrine of the Catholic Church” in accord with to the absolute respect of life “whatever the circumstances”.
