Decommissioning of organ trafficking in Pakistan

Publié le 15 May, 2017

In Pakistan, in an “improvised operating theatre in a house in Lahore“, four people have been arrested for the illegal harvesting of two livers “scheduled for transplantation involving two Oman nationals“.

The team that carried out these “illegal transplants” mainly comprised two doctors.  They were detained along with the two patients, each of whom had paid $70,000 dollars for the procedure.

Given the chronic shortage of organs for transplant and national poverty, Pakistanis often have “to sell their organs to survive”, thereby“supplying a huge black market in that country”.
