Publié le : 5 December 2012
Condemned on 28 August by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for the "incoherence" of its legislative system regarding preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) and abortion, and obliging it to pay €15,000 to a couple in retributory damages, "Italy announced on Wednesday evening that it had lodged an appeal against this decision.
The Italian government stated that "the appeal does not concern the substance of the case." Rome pointed out that "the ruling of the ECHR was pronounced before the couple had exhausted all the legal possibilities provided by the national system."
