In Chile, following the approval of MPs on 17 March 2016 and initial validation by the Senate on 25 January 2017, the draft bill decriminalising abortion in three instances, namely rape, foetal malformation and risk to the mother’s health (see Chile authorises abortion in three instances, namely risk to the mother, rape and foetal malformation) was approved in a second Senate vote held on 19 July 2017.
The bill has yet to be approved by the Chamber of Deputies before being finally adopted.
