Belgium: new complaint against a doctor for practising euthanasia

Publié le : 25 April 2014

On 23 April 2014, a young 20 year-old woman filed a complaint against Dr. Wim Distelmans for not having been informed of her mother’s request for euthanasia and the ensuing medical procedure. Dr. Wim Distelmans is a doctor at the Dutch-speaking University Hospital, UZ Brussels, and Chairman of the Euthanasia Control Committee in Belgium.

In an interview with the Dag Allemaal magazine, the young woman questioned how her mother “who had never been given treatment for depression managed to get euthanasia“. She added that her mother had never told that she (mother) wanted to die.

Dr. Wim Distelmans, who declined to comment, has already been cited in a similar case dating back to early April (Gènéthique press review on April 7th, 2014).
