Barcelona: adoption of abandoned embryos

Publié le 19 Oct, 2018

In Spain, when parents who have had access to medically assisted reproduction do not use their embryos, the law authorises reproduction centres to use them for research purposes, destroy them or to donate them to other couples. In Barcelona, Institut Marquès, which describes itself as a “center with a well-established, internationally recognized reputation in the field of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Assisted Reproduction”, offers couples and single women the chance to adopt these abandoned embryos.

People come from all over the world to take up the offer of adoption. Among the French, 28% are single women who have tried to adopt a child in France.

No waiting list, no official adoption formalities—just one consent form to be signed and one invoice to be paid, the price of which is not disclosed.
