From today onwards, Australian women can order the abortion pill, mifepristone or RU-486, by making a simple telephone call. The pill will be delivered to their homes after blood tests and an ultrasound scan.
The Tabott Foundation providing this service justifiesit since it makes abortion more accessible and more affordable.
For Jenny Ejlak, Co-President of Reproductive Choice Australia, over-the-telephone prescription of the abortion pill is essential, “No travel is involved and we hope that this approach will make the medication more accessible to women living in areas where there are no clinics or doctors trained in prescribing this pill“.
