An artificial pancreas could arrive on the market as early as 2018. Based on a blood glucose sensor, an insulin pump and an algorithm to calculate the dose of insulin, this pancreas has proved useful in the treatment of diabetes. The latest system advance “was to use it in an outpatient context, outside the hospital setting”. One last French-American trial launched in 2016 should give the go-ahead for the marketing of this device in the near future. It is testing the system in 240 diabetics in a real-life situation over a period of six months.
