Abortion advertising in Germany: draft bill to be examined to relax the ban

Publié le 18 Feb, 2019

In Germany, the ban on advertising abortion is expected to be relaxed. Doctors and gynaecologists could be allowed to specify on their website that they perform abortions and provide a link to the family planning website. This information will no longer be seen as promoting abortion, an offence punishable by “a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine”, according to Article 219a of the Criminal Code.

Health Minister Jens Spahn is opposed to this amendment, which was requested by the majority. The draft bill will be examined by the Council of Ministers on 6 February 2019.
