Abortion: a Californian law comes before the United States Supreme Court

Publié le 29 Nov, 2017

The United States Supreme Court has just announced that, in early 2018, it will hear an appeal against a Californian law which obliges “private anti-abortion organisations”  to inform pregnant women that they can appeal for an abortion and methods of contraception  “free of charge or at highly subsidised rates”. This law, which was passed in 2015 and is deemed to be based on “democratic inspiration”, also obliges these establishments to “clearly inform their clients if they are authorised to practice medicine and if they have practitioners on site”.

The claimants believe that this law “violates the first amendment of the Constitution regarding freedom of expression”. The Supreme Court should give its judgement “before the end of June” 2018.
