60 years since the discovery of DNA

On 25 April 1953, the scientists Francis Crick and James Watson published in the journal Nature "the first description of the double helical structure of the long molecule bearing genetic orders of the living being": DNA.    
While it was already known that DNA was the medium of heredity, the two scientists proposed a model in three dimensions and described it as follows: "a structure with two helical chains each coiled round the same axis."
